Fault Analysis and Treatment of Diesel Engine Injector on Offshore Platform
Since a certain platform was put into production, 5 diesel generators have been maintained and overhauled in strict accordance with the requirements, and have been running smoothly. However, since 2013, the failure rate of diesel injectors has increased sharply (as shown in Figure 1), seriously affecting the normal operation of the platform.
Due to the failure of the diesel engine, the equipment has to be switched frequently. According to the program requirements: each switch should keep the diesel engine running with diesel oil for two hours, and then switch to crude oil operation after stabilization. According to rough statistics: each diesel generator consumes about 170 gallons of diesel per hour, and 160 times of diesel engine switching will consume 54,400 gallons of diesel, which is equivalent to RMB 1.2 million based on the diesel price of the year (about 7,000 yuan/ton). One fuel injector broke down in two days, causing the maintenance personnel to deal with it day and night, which brought a lot of pressure to the maintenance personnel. According to the collected information and analysis of the fuel injector failure data of diesel engines (see Figure 4 for details), it is preliminarily concluded that the cause of the fuel injector failure is: due to the change in the viscosity of the crude oil produced, the diesel engine for the use of light crude oil cannot meet the new operating conditions.
