Injectors: the heart of the automotive fuel injection system
In the complex operation system of modern automobile engines, the fuel injector is undoubtedly an extremely critical component. It is like a precise “fuel scheduler”, which has a decisive impact on engine performance, fuel economy and exhaust emissions.
The basic working principle of the injector is to inject fuel into the engine's combustion chamber in the form of precisely measured and well atomized fuel. When the engine control unit (ECU) according to the signals from various sensors, such as air flow sensors, crankshaft position sensors, etc., to determine the current operating conditions of the engine and the load demand, it will be sent to the injector the corresponding electrical pulse signal. After the injector receives the signal, its internal solenoid coil is rapidly energized, generating a magnetic field, so that the needle valve to overcome the spring force and lift, thus opening the injection hole. High-pressure fuel will be under the action of the pressure difference, sprayed into the combustion chamber with a mist, and the air into the full mix, the formation of a combustible mixture, ready for the combustion process.
The precise control of the injector's spraying time and volume is its core technology. Under different engine operating conditions, such as idling, acceleration, cruising and high load operation, the demand for fuel varies greatly. The injector responds instantaneously to the engine control unit's commands and precisely adjusts the start and duration of injection to ensure that the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber is just right. During cold start, the engine needs a thicker mixture to ensure a smooth start, and the injector will increase the amount of fuel injected; while during high-speed cruising, in order to improve fuel economy, it will reduce the amount of fuel injected to make the mixture thinner. This precise control capability not only ensures stable and efficient operation of the engine under various working conditions, but also greatly reduces fuel consumption and the emission of harmful substances in the exhaust gas.
