The role of solenoid valves in the fuel system
Precise control of fuel supply
Start and Stop Fuel Supply: When the engine is started, the fuel pump solenoid valve receives a start signal and opens, allowing fuel to be delivered from the fuel tank through the fuel pump to the engine's fuel system, providing the necessary fuel to start the engine. When the engine needs to stop running, the solenoid valve closes, cutting off the fuel supply and stopping the engine.
Adjusting fuel supply: According to different working conditions of the engine, such as idling, accelerating, decelerating, full load, etc., the electronic control unit (ECU) sends different control signals to the fuel pump solenoid valve to accurately regulate the opening of the solenoid valve, thus controlling the flow of fuel to ensure that the engine gets the right amount of fuel under various working conditions to achieve the best power output and fuel economy.
Controlling Fuel Pressure
Establishing and maintaining pressure: In the fuel system, the fuel pump solenoid valve works in conjunction with the fuel pressure regulator and other components. When the engine is running, the solenoid valve helps to establish and maintain the required pressure in the fuel system by controlling the on-off and flow of fuel to ensure that the fuel can be injected into the combustion chamber of the engine at a certain pressure, so that the fuel can mix with the air fully and realize good combustion.
Pressure regulation: when the fuel system pressure is too high, the fuel pump solenoid valve can reduce the system pressure by increasing the fuel return and other means; when the pressure is too low, it will increase the fuel supply and raise the pressure to ensure that the fuel system pressure is always maintained in the normal range, preventing the engine from working unstably, decreasing in power or malfunctioning due to the abnormal pressure.
Realize injection timing control
Work with the injector: the fuel pump solenoid valve works closely with the injector to precisely control the timing of fuel injection. In a working cycle of the engine, the solenoid valve opens and closes accurately at a specific moment according to the engine's rotational speed, crankshaft position and other signals, so that the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber at the right time, coordinating with the movement of the piston and the opening and closing of the valves and other actions, to ensure the normal combustion process of the engine, and to improve the efficiency and performance of the engine.
Optimize the combustion process: through precise injection timing control, it can make the fuel more evenly distributed in the combustion chamber and better mixed with the air to achieve fuller and more efficient combustion, reduce fuel waste and pollutant emissions, improve the engine's power output and economy, and at the same time reduce noise and vibration.
Protecting the fuel system and engine
Preventing backflow of fuel: The fuel pump solenoid valve has the characteristic of one-way conduction, which can prevent fuel from flowing backward to the fuel tank when the system stops working or when the pressure changes, avoiding pressure fluctuation and fuel leakage in the fuel system, and protecting other parts of the fuel system, such as the fuel pump and injector, from damage caused by the backward pressure and prolonging their service life.
Failure protection: When the fuel system or engine has some failures, such as sensor failure, circuit failure, etc., the ECU may control the fuel pump solenoid valve to shut down or take other protective measures according to the preset program to cut off the fuel supply, prevent the engine from continuing to run under abnormal conditions, avoiding more serious damage, and play the role of protecting the engine and the entire fuel system.
