General description of diesel pressure sensor operation
1. Installation and Location:
The diesel pressure sensor is usually located in the engine's cylinder block, diesel filter housing or engine head, the exact location may vary depending on the engine model and manufacturer.
2.Function and role:
The pressure sensor is used to detect pressure values in a diesel engine, such as fuel pressure, oil pressure, etc.
It converts the detected pressure value into a voltage value and inputs it into the engine control unit (ECU).
According to the received pressure signal, the ECU outputs it to the instrument through the CAN line, and the instrument alarms and limits the torque or displays relevant information according to the signal.
3. Inspection and adjustment:
Injector Nozzle Check and Adjustment: for the pressure check of the injector nozzle, it is necessary to remove the injector nozzle from the cylinder head and install it on a special test bench. Ensure that the fuel tank, fuel piping, etc. of the test bench is clean and filled with filtered, high-cleanliness diesel fuel. Gradually increase the oil pressure by means of a hand pump, check that the opening pressure of the injector nozzles is in accordance with the regulations and make adjustments if necessary.
Oil pressure sensor: its built-in pressure chip may be affected by altitude, so its output voltage should be located within a specific range (e.g., greater than 0.428V and less than 0.572V) under normal temperature and pressure environment.
4. Failure modes and protection:
If the common rail fuel pressure sensor fails, it may cause the ECM fault light to come on, reduced torque engine protection, and a pressure limit of 76MPa and speed limit of 1800rpm.
If the common rail pressure is persistently super high (e.g. over 160MPa or fluctuating 20MPa in 2s), the ECM will control the diesel engine to automatically shut down to prevent damage.
5.Caution:
When making injector adjustments, ensure that the test bench and tools are clean to avoid contamination of the fuel system.
When using engine oil, the appropriate viscosity grade should be used according to the ambient temperature to avoid damage to the engine.
6. Diagnosis and testing:
For diagnosis and testing of the oil pressure switch, it may be necessary to check for open and short circuits (continuity) between the contacts to ensure proper operation.
