Anatomy of common types and characteristics of diesel pump heads
In the diesel engine power output system, the pump head plays a pivotal role in the efficient operation of fuel delivery, cooling circulation and lubrication processes. There are various types of pumpheads for diesel engines, each with its own unique characteristics, suitable for different working conditions.
Plunger type pump head
Plunger-type pump head is called the high-pressure transmission of “capable hands”. Its core operation relies on the reciprocating movement of the plunger in the pump barrel to accurately control fuel intake and high-pressure injection. When working, the plunger downward, the pump chamber volume increases, fuel inhalation; plunger upward, the fuel is squeezed, the pressure rises suddenly, and then sprayed into the cylinder through the injector nozzle in mist.
The advantages of this type of pump head are outstanding, the pressure adjustment range is super wide, can be adapted to different working conditions of diesel engines on the stringent requirements of fuel injection pressure, help fuel full, efficient combustion, strong and stable power output; metering accuracy is very high, each plunger action to deliver the amount of fuel controlled accurately, conducive to maintaining a stable engine working conditions, reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. However, it has a complex structure, many parts, high manufacturing and maintenance costs, and the impurities are easy to cause the plunger to wear out and stall due to fuel cleanliness.
Gear type pump head
Gear-type pump head by virtue of the mutual meshing of a pair of gears “silent cooperation” to complete the liquid delivery. The active gear drives the slave gear to rotate in the opposite direction, and the meshing place separates the pump chamber into suction area and pressure area; when the gear rotates, the suction area expands and “swallows” the fuel, and with the rotation of the gear, the fuel will be brought to the pressure area, and the high-pressure fuel will be output by virtue of the extrusion between the teeth.
It has significant advantages, simple and compact structure, small size, easy to install, fit the compact layout of the diesel engine; flow output is stable and continuous, pressure fluctuation is tiny, for the diesel engine to continue to run smoothly to build a solid foundation; strong reliability, durable gear material with simple structure, low failure rate, easy maintenance. The shortcoming is that the gear clearance is fixed, the flow rate adjustment flexibility is not good; the delivery pressure is limited, facing the high-pressure injection demand is not satisfactory, commonly used in low and medium-pressure fuel, lubricating oil delivery scenarios.
