Common Faults and Maintenance Measures of Fuel Injector
Common faults and impacts
1. Typical faults
Blockage: fuel impurities, carbon deposits or colloids adhere to the spray hole, resulting in reduced fuel injection or poor atomization.
Leakage: The needle valve is not tightly sealed, and fuel drips after the engine is turned off, which may cause difficulty in starting or flooding.
Stuck: The electromagnetic coil or needle valve assembly is worn, causing the injector to fail to open/close normally (common in models with a mileage of more than 100,000 kilometers).
Circuit fault: poor wiring harness contact, electromagnetic coil burnout, ECU cannot control fuel injection (fault light is always on).
2. Impact on the vehicle
Power reduction: insufficient fuel injection or poor atomization, incomplete combustion, and weak acceleration.
Increased fuel consumption: air-fuel ratio is unbalanced, and fuel is not fully utilized (such as fuel consumption may increase by 10%-20% when blocked).
Idle jitter: individual cylinders work poorly, causing engine vibration (such as a cylinder injector stuck and closed).
Excessive emissions: unburned fuel enters the exhaust pipe, resulting in increased pollutants such as CO and HC (annual inspection may not pass).
Starting difficulties: Insufficient fuel atomization during cold start, or leakage causes the fuel in the cylinder to be too thin/too thick.
Maintenance and maintenance recommendations
Regular cleaning
No-disassembly cleaning: Use special equipment (such as a bottle-type cleaning machine) to dissolve carbon deposits every 20,000-30,000 kilometers (applicable to manifold injection and direct injection models).
Disassembly, cleaning or replacement: If the carbon deposits are serious (such as not cleaning after driving for more than 50,000 kilometers), the injector needs to be disassembled for ultrasonic cleaning, or directly replaced (the cost of each is about 200-800 yuan, depending on the model).
Use high-quality fuel
Choose fuel from regular gas stations to avoid impurities (such as sulfur and colloid) in inferior oil clogging the spray hole.
It is recommended to add fuel additives (including PEA ingredients) every 5,000 kilometers to prevent carbon deposits (such as Chevron TCP, Red Line SI-1).
Preventive inspection
During maintenance, use a diagnostic instrument to read the injector data stream (such as pulse width, number of injections), and compare the standard value to determine the working status.
Use a stethoscope to monitor the injector operating sound (normal is a uniform "click" sound, abnormally the sound becomes weaker or disappears).
