How to adjust the fuel injection amount of the injector according to the engine operating conditions?
Sensors collect information
Air flow sensor: used to measure the air flow entering the engine. It can accurately sense the amount of intake air and let the ECU know the intake condition of the engine. For example, when the engine accelerates, the intake air volume increases, and the air flow sensor transmits this information to the ECU, so that the ECU increases the injection amount according to the intake air volume to ensure a suitable air-fuel ratio.
Throttle position sensor: mainly monitors the opening of the throttle. The throttle opening directly reflects the driver's operating intention. For example, when the accelerator pedal is pressed, the throttle opening increases, and the sensor transmits the opening signal to the ECU. The ECU judges the load change of the engine based on this, and then adjusts the injection amount. During rapid acceleration, the throttle opens quickly, and the ECU increases the injection amount to provide sufficient power.
Engine speed sensor: can monitor the engine speed in real time. The engine has different fuel requirements at different speeds. When the speed increases, more fuel is needed to maintain normal operation. The speed sensor transmits the speed information to the ECU, and the ECU adjusts the injection time and frequency of the injector according to the speed, thereby controlling the injection amount.
Water temperature sensor: used to detect the temperature of the engine coolant. During cold start, the water temperature is low and the fuel is difficult to evaporate. The ECU will increase the injection amount according to the signal of the water temperature sensor to make the engine easier to start. As the engine water temperature rises, the injection amount is gradually reduced to normal working state.
Oxygen sensor: installed in the exhaust pipe, used to monitor the oxygen content in the exhaust gas, so as to feedback the air-fuel ratio information after combustion to the ECU. When the oxygen sensor detects that the oxygen content in the exhaust gas is too high, it means that the mixture is too lean, and the ECU will increase the injection amount; conversely, if the oxygen content is too low, it means that the mixture is too rich, and the ECU will reduce the injection amount, thereby achieving closed-loop precise control of the injection amount.
ECU calculation and control
The ECU calculates according to the various sensor signals received, according to the preset control strategy and algorithm, and obtains the required injection amount under the current working conditions. Then, the ECU accurately controls the injection amount by controlling the opening time and frequency of the injector. For example, when the engine is idling, the ECU determines based on the sensor signal that a smaller amount of fuel injection is required, so it controls the injector to inject fuel with a shorter opening time and a lower frequency; when the engine is at high speed and high load, the ECU will extend the injector opening time and increase the injection frequency to increase the injection amount and meet the engine's power requirements.
