Causes of fuel injector nozzle clogging

Injector nozzle clogging is one of the common problems of diesel engines. The reasons for the clogging are mainly related to factors such as fuel quality, engine working condition and maintenance. The following is a detailed introduction:

    Fuel quality problem
Too many impurities: The fuel may contain various solid impurities, such as dust, rust, etc. After these impurities enter the injector nozzle with the fuel, they will gradually accumulate in the nozzle or internal channel of the injector nozzle, causing clogging. Especially in some cases where fuel storage and transportation conditions are poor, the fuel is more susceptible to contamination.

Gum and carbon deposit formation: The unstable components in the fuel are prone to oxidation and polymerization under the action of high temperature and oxygen, forming gum and carbon deposits. These gums and carbon deposits will adhere to the surface of the injector nozzle, gradually block the nozzle, and affect the injection effect. Long-term use of inferior fuel or improper use of fuel additives will accelerate the formation of gum and carbon deposits.

Excessive moisture content: If there is too much moisture in the fuel, it will cause rust and corrosion inside the injector nozzle, and the generated rust and corrosion products will block the injector nozzle. In addition, moisture will also affect the combustion performance of the fuel, causing incomplete combustion, more carbon deposits, and further aggravating the blockage of the injector.

    Engine working status problems
Incomplete combustion: When the engine's injection time, injection pressure and other parameters are inaccurate, or the air filter is blocked and causes insufficient air intake, the fuel will be incompletely burned. Unburned fuel will form carbon deposits on the surface of the injector, and as time accumulates, the carbon deposits will gradually block the injector.

High temperature effect: During the operation of the engine, the injector is in a high temperature environment. Long-term high temperature will cause the metal material inside the injector to expand, causing the spray hole to become smaller. At the same time, high temperature will also accelerate the formation and deposition of colloid and carbon deposits in the fuel, increasing the possibility of injector blockage.

The injector's operating frequency is too high: Under some high-load and high-speed working conditions, the injector needs to be opened and closed frequently to perform injection operations. Frequent actions will increase the wear of the parts inside the injector, and will also make it easier for impurities in the fuel to accumulate at the spray hole, causing blockage.

    Maintenance issues
The air filter is not replaced in time: The function of the air filter is to filter the air entering the engine. If the air filter is too dirty or blocked, the amount of air entering the engine will be reduced, resulting in an imbalance in the mixing ratio of fuel and air, incomplete combustion, and then carbon deposits will be generated, clogging the injector nozzle.

Failure to clean the injector nozzle on time: In the long-term use of the injector nozzle, carbon deposits and impurities will inevitably accumulate. If the injector nozzle is not cleaned and maintained on time, these carbon deposits and impurities will gradually clog the injector nozzle and affect its normal operation.

Using inferior engine oil: The lubrication and heat dissipation performance of inferior engine oil is poor, which will cause the internal temperature of the engine to be too high, affecting the working environment of the injector nozzle. At the same time, impurities and additives in inferior engine oil may enter the combustion chamber through parts such as the piston ring, mix with the fuel, and aggravate the clogging of the injector nozzle.
